ELKINS — Elkins broke a long losing streak to Fairmont Senior Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action at Tiger Stadium.
It was the first win for the Tigers over the Polar Bears on the pitch in more than 10 years.
“The boys played an outstanding game and defended extremely well,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “It’s been over 10 years since Elkins has pulled out a win against Fairmont Senior, so it was a great result for us and the program.
“It’s another game that we’ve kept a shutout and we’ve yet to give up a goal this season.”
The Tigers scored the match’s lone goal when Tucker Cutright found the back of the net with just 9 minutes left in regulation.
Elkins is now 4-0-0 on the season and will remain home at 7:30 p.m. today against Lincoln for another league contest.
Beginning this season, the Tigers are now paired in Class AAA, Region II with Bridgeport, Lewis County, Robert C. Byrd, Hampshire and Keyser.
