ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins College baseball team will host the annual Red & Black World Series Friday evening at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Assistants and Elkins High School products Lance VanNoy (Red Team) and Heath Broughton (Black Team) will serve as coaches.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. and 37 players from 10 different states will take part in the event.

“We’re returning a lot of experience on the roster and have added a talented recruiting class of freshmen and transfers,” a spokesman for the D&E baseball team stated in a press release. “This is alumni weekend and we’ll have a good number of former players in attendance.”

The team will be accepting donations/canned food for Catholic Charities WV — a foot pantry in the area.

“We are really trying to promote the game of baseball to the youth in town, and this has the potential to help with that significantly,” the spokesman added. “Our team is much stronger, bigger and better than last year and has a chance to do big things coming spring.”
