First-half surge powers East Hardy to victory over Bulldogs

BAKER — Trevor Roof threw for two scores and ran for another as Class A, No. 13 East Hardy cruised to a 52-6 win over No. 17 Tygarts Valley on Friday evening.

The Cougars did a majority of their damage in the first half as Roof hit Dayton Dove for a two TD passes, Garrett VanMeter ran for two scores, Levi Price returned a punt 51 yards for a score and Roof a rushing TD to give East Hardy a 44-0 lead at halftime.

Roof was 10 of 15 passing for 189 yards in two quarters of action.

VanMeter added 55 yards rushing on the ground.

Both teams played with mainly reserves in the second half with a running clock.

The Bulldogs got on the board when punter Adam Woods scooped up a low snap and raced 53 yards for a touchdown.

Freshman Brinn Childers hit classmate Cole Lantz for a score to account for the Cougars’ second-half points.

Tygarts Valley (2-5) entertains Ritchie County next Friday, while East Hardy (3-3) plays host to Potomac Valley Conference foe Moorefield, which upset Tucker County, 40-28, on Friday night.
