Mountain Lions rally for victory over Wildcats

Marks throws for five scores in 42-20 win

PARSONS — Sam Marks threw for five touchdowns as Class A, No. 7 Tucker County rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to hand No. 4 Pendleton County a 42-20 setback Friday night for homecoming at R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field at Class of 1984 Alumni Stadium.

The Mountain Lions (5-1) trailed 20-6 in the first half before erupting for 22 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 28-20 halftime lead.

The passing connection between quarterback Sam Marks and Cayden Arnold accounted for all three scores, including an 18-yard strike with just 10 ticks left in the first half to treat Tucker County to a 28-20 lead at the break.

Marks then found Keelyn Eichelberger for a 6-yard score with 6:42 left in the third quarter to make 34-20.

The Mountain Lions closed the scoring on a 24-yard score from Marks to Arnold late in the fourth quarter.

Colton Roberson had a TD pass to Chase Owens with 9:22 left in the first quarter to put Pendleton County on top, 6-0, after the conversion kick was blocked.

Roberson then found Britton Lough for 34 yards out to extend the lead to 14-0 after the two-point conversion.

Lucas Barb then returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards to put Tucker County on the board.

Roberson answered with a 1-yard plunge on Pendleton’s next possession.
