Tigers drop three spots in ratings
ELKINS — Elkins dropped three spots in this week’s WVSSAC Class AAA playoff ratings released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers (5-2) lost a 41-13 verdict at now No. 4 North Marion (5-1). Elkins will host third-rated Fairmont Senior (5-1) on Friday night.
Defending state champion Bridgeport (7-0) stayed atop of the Class AAA ratings after going on the road last week and defeating then-No. 7 Spring Valley, which fell to 10th.
Princeton Senior (6-0) is second and Greenbrier East (4-2) fifth.
Philip Barbour (5-2) remained third in Class AA after rolling to a 43-0 victory over No. 10 Petersburg.
The Colts are idle this week and return to action Oct. 24 at Lewis County.
Independence (6-0) and Frankfort maintained the top two spots in Class AA, with Bluefield (5-2) fourth and Doddridge County (6-0) fifth.
A loss at Moorefield plunged Tucker County (5-2) from seventh to 10th in Class A. The Mountain Lions look to regroup Friday night at Southern (Md.).
Wahama (7-0) is still the top-rated squad in Class A, followed by Tug Valley (4-2), Wheeling Central (4-2), Sherman (6-1) and Pendleton County (4-2).
Huntington (5-1), Morgantown (6-1), George Washington (6-1), Martinsburg (5-2) and Spring Mills (4-2) comprise the top five in Class AAAA.
After picking up its first victory of the season, Buckhannon-Upshur (1-5) moved among the top 16 in the 15th spot.
The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs.
