BRIDGEPORT -- Elkins placed fifth in the Class AAA, Region II tourney held Monday at the Bridgeport Country Club.

The Tigers finished with a team-total 276 and were led by Kendrick Smith's 88.

Luca Collier added a 90, Lincoln Fletcher a 98 and Dreyton Boggs a 100.

"We were in a tough region and unfortunately lately some of the guys have been struggling with their swings," EHS coach Dave Baird said. "Kendrick battled Dylan (Hall) from Lewis (County) all the way down to the final hole for the second individual (state) spot but just came up short."

Hall played the last 3 holes 1-under to edge Smith.

"Watching Kendrick battle the last couple holes I was proud how he played, Dylan just made some crucial putts," Baird added.

The Elkins team was able to follow Tygarts Valley on the WVSSAC Golf App, according to Baird.

"We would like to congratulate Tygarts Valley on their big (regional) win and wish them luck at states," Baird said.

Freshman Alexander Randolph was the low medalist with a 68 to lead Bridgeport (228) to the team title.

Hampshire (241), Keyser (271), Lewis County (268) and Robert C. Byrd (295) rounded out the field.

The state tournament will be held Oct. 14-15 at the Speidel Golf Club/Jones Course at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.
