PHILIPPI — Patrick Webster and Cam Bennett scored three touchdowns each to lead Class AA, No. 3 Philip Barbour to a 49-22 win over No. 13 South Harrison Friday night at George Byrer Field at Freedom Bank Park.

Webster returned two kickoffs for scores — a 62-yard burst late in the first half and 65-yard jolt to paydirt in the second half.

Bennett, meanwhile, set the tone on special teams on the opening kickoff, racing 82 yards to put the Colts up 7-0 after the first of six successful conversion kicks by freshman Ayden Thorne on the night.

Robbie Jones then found Bennett from 35 yards out to extend the lead to 14-0.

With 10:29 left in the second quarter, Webster was on the receiving end of a 5-yard strike from Jones on a third-down conversion.

Bennett’s 20-yard scamper on a quarterback keeper put Philip Barbour in front, 28-0.

The Hawks got on the board with 39 seconds left in the first half when Maddox Maxwell found Collin Seguin for a 29-yard connection to cut the deficit to 28-8 after Maxwell hit Gabe Ferrell on the two-point conversion.

But on the ensuing kickoff, Webster scooped a squib kick near the visitors’ sideline and raced to the end zone as the Colts took a 35-8 into the dressing room and erased any momentum South Harrison had built.

Malachi Poling hauled in a TD pass from Jones and Webster’s return accounted for Philip Barbour’s scoring in the third quarter.

The Hawks added a scoring pass from Maxwell to Ferrell and short TD run by Elliot Watson in the second half.

Jones was 7 of 10 passing on the evening for 181 yards, with Poling hauling in three passes for 85 yards, Bennett two for 49 and Webster a pair for 47 yards,

Landyn Carpenter led the ground attack with 83 yards rushing on 11 totes, followed by Bennett with 54 on six attempts.

Philip Barbour moves to 4-2 on the season and will remain home next Friday night to face No. 4 Petersburg, which dropped a 21-7 verdict at Doddridge County on Friday night for its first loss of the season.

South Harrison (4-2) visits Doddridge County next Friday.
