ELKINS — At just 12 years old, Valentina Aguilar continues to prove that age is no barrier to excellence. The young golfer closed out her 2025 competitive season last Friday after receiving a special invitation to the Callaway Junior Tour Players of the Year Banquet held at Berry Hills Country Club, where she was once again honored as Girls 14-and-Under Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Aguilar earned the award by accomplishing a rare feat — winning every tournament she entered on the Callaway Junior Tour this season in the highly competitive 14-and-under division, a level that includes middle and high school athletes. Her dominance throughout the year highlighted not only her natural ability, but also a competitive maturity well beyond her age.
Her season finale came just days earlier at the Colonial Classic, a two-day regional event hosted at Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia. The tournament featured more than 32 elite junior golfers from across Virginia, Tennessee, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia, competing over a demanding 5,200-yard championship layout against players as old as 17.
The opening round delivered severe challenges as persistent rain soaked the front nine, creating slow greens, wet fairways and difficult lies. Aguilar battled through the conditions with focus and resilience, grinding through what many considered the toughest stretch of the competition.
Day two brought a complete turnaround in weather — and in scoring opportunities. Taking advantage of improved conditions, Aguilar hit 10 of 14 fairways in regulation, recorded 34 putts, and surged up the leaderboard to finish inside the top 16 overall against a significantly older field.
Her success across multiple U.S. Kids Golf leagues further highlighted her consistency throughout the year. Aguilar captured first place in the U.S. Kids Golf Spring League, then followed it with another first-place finish in the U.S. Kids Golf Pittsburgh Fall League. Despite competing in only four events in the Virginia League, she still secured an impressive third-place overall finish. In the West Virginia Fall League, she again placed third overall while participating in just three events, before closing that series by winning the Tour Championship at Edgewood Country Club with a 76, after posting a 77 in the previous event at Creekside Golf Course.
During the summer, she added another major milestone to her growing resume by winning the West Virginia Junior Amateur Championship in the 14-and-under division at Canaan Valley. She also challenged herself at the highest level of in-state competition by participating in the West Virginia Ladies Amateur Championship at The Club at Cress Creek in Shepherdstown competing against many of the top adult amateurs in the state.
In total, Aguilar competed in more than 25 tournaments this year, an extraordinary competitive schedule for an athlete her age, consistently showing growth, discipline, and steady improvement. She continues to close in on the coveted 72 score milestone, a benchmark many junior golfers strive years to reach.
“I’m proud of how this year went and how close I’m getting to 72,” Aguilar said. “It motivates me to keep working and getting better.”
Aguilar and her family expressed deep appreciation to the individuals and organizations that supported her throughout the season, including the John Ballantyne Memorial Junior Golf Association, Elkins Elks Lodge 1135, Mike Rogers, Robin and Frank Mams, Jen Adams, Karen Kinnett, Shane Levenson, Patrick Cain, and many others who contributed to her continued success.
Looking ahead to the demanding 2026 competitive calendar, which will require greater travel and logistical support for high-level regional and national qualifiers, Aguilar is excited to compete at the highest level while continuing to train through the offseason. Her development has been strongly supported by the John Ballantyne Memorial Junior Golf Association, which remains dedicated to helping promising local athletes like Aguilar focus solely on their game while building the skills needed for a successful future in golf.
