Area boys soccer players earn Big 10, all-state honors
ELKINS — Several area high school boys soccer players recently received honors on the Big 10 Conference and WVHSSCA all-state teams.
Elkins High School junior forward Tucker Cutright and sophomore midfielder Tristan Whited were selected to the all-Big Conference first team, while senior goalkeeper Bobby Valentine earned a spot on the second unit.
All three earned Class AAA all-state honors as well, with Cutright a second-team selection, Valentine getting named special honorable mention and Whited honorable mention.
The Tigers also placed junior defender Chiron Wing and senior defender Nicholas Close on the all-state honorable-mention list.
Buckhannon-Upshur had three juniors selected to the all-Big 10 second unit in defender Zack Simmons, forward Coby Smith and midfielder Deacon Thorne.
Simmons, Smith and junior Jimmie Green were tabbed special honorable mention on the Class AAAA all-state squad, while junior Brady Hommema and Thorne were listed as honorable mention.
Philip Barbour junior defender Slaton Harris was named to the all-Big 10 second unit.
On the Class AA-A all-state squad, Pocahontas County senior forward Wade Garber earned first-team laurels and senior defender Tristen O’Steen second-team honors.
Warrior seniors Kaden Wayne, Quincy Sharp and Luke Taylor received honorable mention recognition.
