Carpenter goes over 1,000 yards for season, rumbles for 209, 2 TDs

PHILIPPI — Landyn Carpenter rushed for 209 yards and two scores and Philip Barbour’s defense limited East Fairmont to just 177 yards of total offense in a 52-14 victory Friday night at George Byrer Field at Freedom Bank Park.
Carpenter went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season on the Colts’ first play of scrimmage as the junior raced 70 yards to make it 7-0 after first of seven successful extra-point kicks by freshman Ayden Thorne.
That set the tone for the remainder of the half, as Tyler Vance followed with a 24-yard scoring run and Robbie Jones found Patrick Webster for a 53-yard connection to treat Philip Barbour to a 21-0 after one quarter.
The offense, along with the defense, continued to hit on all strides in the second quarter for the hosts.
On fourth-and-11, Cam Bennett connected with Malachi Poling from 41 yards out with 8:20 left in the first half, then Carpenter later busted loose for a 70-yard run to extend the margin to 35-0.

A 60-yard scamper by Vance with 3 minutes left in the quarter gave the Colts a 42-0 advantage at halftime.
On the first possession of the second half, Jones found tight end Kent Rowan, who broke free and raced 77 yards for the final TD of the night for Philip Barbour.
Thorne added a 19-yard field goal with 1:25 left in the third.
The Bees got on the board twice late in the contest on a 17-yard pass from Logan Eakle to Jaxson Heskett and a 2-yard touchdown run by Tyler Hudson.
Carpenter did all of his damage in the first half on just nine toes for Philip Barbour, which also received 81 yards rushing from Vance and 72 from Bennett.
Jones threw for 176 yards, with Webster hauling in two catches for 69 yards.
The Colts held a 542-177 advantage in total yardage and picked off three passes on defense on the night.
Adrian Fleming had 34 yards on the ground in the loss.
Philip Barbour, rated fourth in Class AA, is now 7-2 and will host Lincoln in the regular-season finale next Friday night.
East Fairmont dropped to 3-6 and battles city-rival Fairmont Senior on the same evening.
