ELKINS — Berths in the state semifinals are on the line this evening for Philip Barbour and Tucker County.

The third-seeded Colts (9-2) will host No. 11 Clay County (8-3) in Class AA quarterfinal play at George Byrer Field at Freedom Bank Park at 7 p.m..

It will be the first time in school history Philip Barbour has hosted a quarterfinal game as the Colts also look for their first-ever appearance in the state semifinals on the gridiron.

Philip Barbour, which handed South Harrison a 38-8 setback in the opening round last Friday night, enters the contest on a seven-game winning streak.

The Colts will face a Clay County squad with tons of momentum after rolling past No. 6 Roane County, 44-12, last Friday as Cooper Collins threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns and Joel Elliott collected six passes for 240 yards en route to three scores.

Defensively, Philip Barbour got a boost from sophomore linebacker Parker Herrod, who took part in 21 total tackles, had two tackles-for-loss and collected 1 1/2 sacks.

The Central defense limited Tolsia to just 96 yards of total offense.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the schools in football.
