EHS runners compete at NXR Southeast
CARY, N.C.–A total of 11 Elkins High School cross-country runners elected to extend their season and compete in the highly competitive NXR Southeast regional race this past Saturday in North Carolina. The group entered as a club, calling themselves the “Forest Hills Distance Project” and took part in four different races.
Treven Schaefer led the way for FHDP boys entered in the Open Race and established a new personal best time of 16:46 on the 5-kilometer course to place 39th out of 277 competitors in his heat. Other FHDP runners in the Open Race included Ben Tenney (16:57), Josh Bodkins (17:06), Preston Nixon (17:50), Logan Jones (17:56), Dylan Fortney (18:03), Reed Burdette (19:59), and Levi Tenney (22:06).
Molly McFadden also represented FHDP in the girls Open Race with a 21:58 clocking and Trevor George donned a FHDP jersey for the boys in the Championship Race, posting a time of 16:31.
Julia Biola took part in the final race of the day for the FHDP crew, recording a new personal best time of 18:59.
The NXR Southeast event attracted teams from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. It is a qualifier for Nike’s national cross-country championships, which will be contested on Dec. 6 in Portland, Oregon.
