Lady Hornet booters finish fourth in conference tourney

BRIDGEPORT -- The Elkins Middle School girls soccer team finished fourth in the Mid-Mountain 10 Conference tourney.
The fourth-seeded Lady Hornets lost to top-seed Bridgeport, 4-0, in the second round of the tournament, then dropped a thrilling 2-1 overtime verdict to second-seed Taylor County in the third-place game on Saturday.
Addison Cunningham scored off a play from Kendall Ward 10 minutes into the first half for Elkins against Taylor County, which tied the game with 2:28 to go in the second half to put the game into overtime.
The Lady Knights scored in the first sudden-death period to claim the victory.
The Lady Hornets finished with an 8-6-2 mark.
"The girls had a strong season and should be proud," EMS coach Andrew Roidt said. "They really battled in the conference tournament, which was highlighted by a thrilling win against Buckhannon in penalty kicks."
