Mountain Lions drop 23-0 verdict to Vikings
PARSONS — Class AA, No. 11 Petersburg scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to hand Class A, No. 11 Tucker County a 23-0 setback Friday night at R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field at Class of 1984 Alumni Stadium.
It was the third straight setback for the Mountain Lions, who are now 5-4 and will conclude the regular season next Friday at home against Hampshire.
Leading 3-0, the Vikings used a 10-yard pass from Payton Metheny to Alex Halterman to take a 10-0 advantage with 7 minutes left in the third quarter.
On the first play of the final quarter, Metheny found a streaking Lukas Wolford for a 70-yard connection, extending the lead to 16-0.
Petersburg racked on a 30-yard run by Wolford later in the quarter to end the scoring.
The Vikings, who halted a three-game skid, improved to 6-3 and will entertain East Hardy next Friday in a key contest to end the regular season.
