Mountain Lions fall to Central in quarterfinal play
WHEELING — Tucker County’s season came to a conclusion in a 41-8 setback to top-seed Wheeling Central Friday night in Class A quarterfinal play at Bishop Schmitt Field on the campus of Wheeling University.
The Maroon Knights (8-2) will host the winner of today’s matchup between No. 4 Pendleton County and No. 12 East Hardy in next week’s semifinals.
Wheeling Central led 7-0 before back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns made it 21-0.
A touchdown by Sam Marks got the eighth-seeded Mountain Lions on the board to cut the lead to 21-8.
The Maroon Knights tacked on a pair of scores to take a 34-6 lead into the break.
Running back Kade Koroneos and quarterback Nico Kusic combined for 170 yards rushing to lead Wheeling Central.
Marks threw for 141 yards, with Reid Kisamore hauling in six receptions for 75 yards for the Mountain Lions, who ended the season 7-5.
Cade Rapp added 37 yards on the ground.
