ONA — The high school state cross country meet takes place today at Cabell Midland High School.

The Elkins High boys enter the Class AAA race as the team to beat. The Tigers captured the double-A crown in 2024, led by individual champion Trevor George.

The remainder of the state squad for EHS include seniors Josh Bodkins, Ben Tenney Preston Nixon and Logan Jones juniors Treven Schaefer and Dylan Fortney

Members of the Lady Tigers competing are regional champion and junior Emilia Tenney, junior Julia Biola, seniors Mya Mendelson, Emma Gilbert and Delia White and freshmen Molly McFadden and Haley Kelley.

The Class AAA boys race is set for 3:45 p.m., with the girls taking to the course at 3 p.m.

In Class AAAA, the Buckhannon-Upshur boys and girls are among the field.

Members of the Bucs competing include seniors Alex Sappey and Joey Nolte, junior Bryce Mullens, sophomor Kenton Stump and freshmen Mitchell Whitley, Mason Conway and Lucas Fortney.

For the Lady Bucs, senior Mallory Moss, junior Angelina Winter, sophomores Gwendolyn Rogosky, Lena Rose Walker, Isabella Bowers and Thea Hens and freshman Haleigh Skidmore are slated to take to the course.

The Class AAAA girls race is the first one of the day on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m., followed by the boys at 9:45 a.m..

Freshman Jacob Burner and senior Kayla Baker will represent the Colts in Ona in the Class AA race after qualifying individually at regionals.

The Class AA competition begins with the girls at 1 p.m. and boys at 1:45 p.m.

The Tucker County boys will take part in the Class A race.

Members of the Mountain Lions include seniors Lynk Suesli (regional champion), Cameron Judy and Alex Collar, junior Draven Bunnell and sophomore William Gilligan.

Individual qualifiers for the Tucker County girls are regional champion and sophomore Estoria Chase and senior Addi Moats.

The Class A boys race will begin at 11:45 a.m. Saturday and the girls at 11 a.m.

For the first-time ever, four state champions (boys and girls) will be crowned at today’s state meet in AAAA, AAA, AA and A.

Rosters for competing state teams and individuals is subject to change.
