Tigers enter finale 12th in playoff ratings

ELKINS — Elkins will enter its regular-season finale at Preston on Friday night 12th in this week’s WVSSAC playoff ratings, released on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers (6-3) were idle last week and are just behind Keyser and Winfield to get among the Top 10 in the Class AAA playoff race.

Hampshire, which visits Tucker County on Friday, is 13th, followed by Capital, Robert C. Byrd and John Marshall to round out the Top 16.

Princeton, Bridgeport, Fairmont Senior, North Marion and Nitro comprise the top five.

Philip Barbour, which has won five straight games, remained fourth in Class AA. The Colts (7-2) host Lincoln on Friday in looking to firmly secure at least one home game in the playoffs.

The Cougars (4-5) are 13th.

Defending state champion Frankfort remained No. 1, ahead of Bluefield and Independence.

Doddridge County is fifth, while Peterburg is 11th and hosts Class A, No. 11 East Hardy on Friday.

Tucker County, which has dropped three straight games, is 12th, ahead of Greenbrier West, Ritchie County, Man and Gilmer County.

Wheeling Central, Wahama, Clay-Battelle, Pendleton County and Sherman comprise the top five.

The Wildcats (7-2) visit No. 6 Cameron on Friday.

In Class AAAA, a high-soring 60-57 win over Preston last week has Buckhannon-Upshur at 16th this week.

The Bucs visit Class AAA, No. 15 Robert C. Byrd on Friday evening.

Preston, meanwhile, is 18th entering this week’s contest against Elkins.

Morgantown sets atop the Class AAAA ratings, with Huntington, Martinsburg, Jefferson and George Washington just behind.

Entering Week 11 of the season, the only undefeated teams remaining are Princeton, Bridgeport and Chapmanville Regional in Class AAA, Frankfort and Doddridge County in double-A and Wahama in Class A.

The Top 16 in each class qualify for the playoffs, set to begin Nov. 14.
