EHS boys, girls swim past Robert C. Byrd

ELKINS — The Elkins boys and girls posted victories over Big 10 Conference foe Robert C. Byrd Wednesday night at George A. Myles Pool on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.

The EHS boys swam to an 81-67 win, while the Lady Tigers claimed a 114-31 decision.

Dorsey Cutright won the 100 backstroke (1:07.21) and 200 IM (2:25.79) to lead the Tigers.

Others finishing first for the Tigers were Kyan George (200-yard freestyle, 1:59.62), Briar Higgins (100 freestyle, 1:03.91) and Joel Casto (100 breaststroke, 1:07.64).

Cutright, Casto and George joined Kolton Ward in capturing the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:58.31.

The Lady Tigers’ Lilly Irons won both the 200 IM and 100 freestyle Wednesday evening’s Big 10 Conference matchup against Robert C. Byrd at Davis & Elkins College’s George A. Myles Pool.

RCB’s Sam Griffith edged George to win the 50 freestyle in 24.65, compared to George’s 24.66.

Griffith also took the 500 freestyle (5:44.69).

The Lady Tigers won six of the eight individual races and all three relay events in besting the Lady Flying Eagles.

Lilly Irons captured both the 200 IM (2:32.11) and 100 freestyle (57.90), Lilly Anger claimed the 50 freestyle (26.66) and 500 freestyle (6:06.11), Leah Ours the 100 breaststroke (1:22.79) and Raighan Carte Hall the 200 freestyle (2:26.33).

Aleah Irons, Emma Ujvagi, Lilly Irons and Anger teamed to take the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:59.89, Ujvagi, Kenadi Carte, Aleah Irons and Lilly Irons won the 200 freestyle relay with an effort of 1:49.27 and Sophia Rhodes, Raighan Carte Hall, Ours and Anger was first in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:52.23.

RCB’s Liza Saas won the 100 backstroke (1:03.33) and 100 butterfly (1:00.99).

Elkins returns to action at the Penguin Invitational in Parkersburg at 9 a.m. on Jan. 10.
