ELKINS — Elkins High’s early stretch of tough opponents to open the season continued Tuesday afternoon at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
Washington, fifth in this week’s Class AAAA coaches poll, placed four players in double figures in handing the Tigers an 86-50 setback.
The Patriots, now 5-0, were led by Kris Doleman’s 19 points. He was followed by Chet Gore with 18, Avorie Brown with 15 and Jasiah King’s 12.
Senior Landon Shreve led Elkins with a game-high 20 points. Isaiah Nutter also reached double figures with 12 and Dreyton Boggs chipped in nine.
After scoring the game’s first two points provided by Boggs, Washington outscored the Tigers 22-2 the remainder of the canto.

The Patriots, behind Doleman’s 10 points in the second quarter, built a 46-21 halftime lead.
Baskets by Shreve and Nutter in the third frame helped Elkins get within 20 points, at 53-33, but the Patriots went on a 17-8 surge to end the canto and construct a 70-41 cushion.
The Tigers are now 0-4 on the early season, with losses coming at Class AAA, No. 3 Fairmont Senior, Class A, No. 4 Tucker County and an overtime setback at John Marshall.
Elkins will visit East Fairmont at 7:30 p.m. Monday to resume Big 10 Conference play. The next home game is set for Jan. 9 against Robert C. Byrd.
