WVU expected to add Trickett to football staff

Rich Rodriguez is expected to reunite with an old member of his staff, bringing him back to West Virginia.

Rick Trickett is reportedly expected to join Rodriguez’s staff for the 2026 season, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. There hasn’t been an indication of in what aspect, but Trickett was previously at Jacksonville State, where he was coaching as an offensive line coach.

Trickett has spent time on a couple of Rodriguez’s staff. He originally began coaching in 1976, where he was an assistant coach at West Virginia and eventually worked with the O-line. He then left in 1979 and had multiple stops, including at Memphis, Auburn and LSU.

He eventually returned to WVU in 2001 to coach the offensive line, joining Rodriguez during his first time coaching the Mountaineers. He left in 2006 to coach at Florida State until 2017. Trickett was on staff during the Seminoles’ 2014 undefeated season, which ended in a BCS National Championship.

After FSU, Trickett spent from 2019-21 to coach at his alma mater, Glenville State. He rejoined Rodriguez during his short time at Jacksonville State, also coaching offensive line.

During his coaching career, Trickett had more than 35 of his linemen play in the NFL, and more than 40 have earned all-conference honors. He’s a veteran coach who has almost 50 years of experience, mostly coaching the O-line. WVU’s line struggled this year, so Rodriguez might be counting on his former position coach for some help.

Starting at $3.92/week.
