D&E, Wesleyan women suffer road losses

INSTITUTE — Six players landed in double figures to lead West Virginia State to a 78-46 win over Davis & Elkins Wednesday evening in Mountain East Conference play.

Jessica Osuanah led the way for the Lady Yellow Jackets with 13, followed by Imani Hickman and Latisha Parris with 12 each and Tiir Nyok, Ahjanae Young and Baylee Goins with 10 apiece.

Nyok completed her double-double with 11 rebounds. Smith added 10 caroms.

Briyanna Sapp was the lone player to land in double figures with 10 for the Lady Senators, who are now 1-13 overall and 0-8 MEC and return home Saturday to face the University of Charleston at 2 p.m.

Sapp also had eight caroms and three assists. Jalia Garner chipped in nine points.

State improved to 5-8 and 3-4 and travels to West Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday.

UC 53, Wesleyan 51

CHARLESTON — The University of Charleston closed the game on a 5-0 run to get past West Virginia Wesleyan, 53-51, Wednesday evening in MEC action.

Harper Annarino’s layup with three seconds left proved to be the game-winner for the Lady Golden Eagles.

The Lady Bobcats took a 51-48 advantage in the back-and-forth affair on Kilah Dandridge’s basket with 2:21 to play.

But it was Wesleyan’s last points of the night.

Sydney Baird had 14 points to pace the Lady Bobcats. Dandridge chipped in 12 points.

Jordan Scully led UC with 18 points.

Wesleyan is now 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the MEC and will return home at 2 p.m. Saturday to battle West Virginia State.

The Lady Golden Eagles improved to 9-6 and 6-2 and visits Davis & Elkins at 2 p.m. Saturday.
