Elkins High girls, boys swim past B-U

ELKINS — Elkins swam past Big 10 Conference rival Buckhannon-Upshur Wednesday evening at George A. Myles Pool on the Davis & Elkins College campus.
The Lady Tigers tallied 95 points to claim a 31-point win over the Lady Bucs.
Juniors Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger captured two events each for Elkins and were part of two winning relay units.
Irons took the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:09.55 and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.26).
Anger was first in the 50 freestyle (26.72) and 100 freestyle (59.58).
They teamed with senior Emma Ujvagi and sophomore Aleah Irons to capture the 200 freestyle relay with an effort of 1:47.93) and the 400 freestyle relay in 4:00.22.
Aleah Irons also won the 200 IM (2:26.00) and Ujvagi the 100 backstroke (1:07.06).
B-U sophomore Aubry Shay claimed both the 500 freestyle (6:13.91) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.87).
She joined junior Estrid Garver-Daniels, senior Mallory Hughes and sophomore Lena Rose Walker in claiming the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:08.41.
The EHS boys cruised to a 101-21 victory as freshmen Kyan George and Dorsey Cutright won two events apiece.
George took the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.00 and the 100 backstroke in 58.89, while Cutright claimed the 200 freestyle (2:09.46) and the 100 freestyle (57.63).
Classmate Kolton Ward was first in the 200 IM (2:48.49), junior Zenna Jones took the 500 freestyle (6:52.98) and sophomore Joel Casto the 100 breaststroke (1:07.13).
Cutright, Casto, George and Ward comprised the winning 200 medley relay (1:58.34), Casto, junior Briar Higgins, Cutright and George took the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.94) and Jones, freshman Kyle Warner, sophomore Jackson Shepherd and Ward claimed the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:41.34.
The Bucs received a pair of second-place finishes from junior Grayson Colburn in the 200 freestyle (2:11.59) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.55).
Elkins will travel to the Penguin Invitational Saturday in Parkersburg.
Postseason action for both EHS and B-U is around the corner as the Big 10 Conference Championships are set for Jan. 31 at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport and regionals get underway on Feb. 7.
