Grafton holds off Lady Colts in battle of ranked teams

PHILIPPI -- Kenna Keener bucketed 23 points as Class AAA, No. 8 Grafton held off Class AA, No. 6 Philip Barbour, 48-46, Tuesday night in a Big 10 Conference matchup.

The Lady Colts (4-5, 1-3 Big 10) trailed by five points late in the third quarter before drawing even at 46-46 on a free throw from Izzy Knotts and Ansley Bolyard's putback in the fourth quarter.

A pair of free throws from Bailey Satterfield with 20 seconds left put the Lady Bearcats (8-5, 5-0 Big 10) in front for good.

After Grafton missed a pair of free throws with 3.6 ticks left, Philip Barbour moved the ball the length of the floor but a 3-pointer as time expired rattled out.

Ruth Horne also landed in double figures for the Lady Bearcats with 10.

Finley Carpenter paced the Lady Colts with 12. Knotts just missed double figures with nine.

Philip Barbour will visit Elkins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for another Big 10 contest.

Grafton entertains league foe Preston on the same evening.
