BUCKHANNON — Emma Witt and Kilah Dandridge combined for 47 points as West Virginia Wesleyan held off Concord, 81-79, in a battle of two of the top teams in the Mountain East Conference Wednesday evening at Rockefeller Center.

The Lady Bobcats raised their record to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the MEC. They entered the contest second in the conference, while the Lady Mountain Lions, who dropped to 8-5 and 4-2, were second.

Wesleyan led by 15 points, at 63-48, with 7:05 to play in regulation after an Ana Young layup.

But the Lady Mountain Lions cut the deficit to three on two different occasions inside of 2 minutes to play, then got within 75-73 on an old-fashioned three-point play from Abbie Smith with 1:11 left.

Wesleyan, however, went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line over the final 22 seconds, with Sydney Baird hitting four and Witt a pair to pull away.

A trey by Concord’s Alexis Frazee in the closing seconds set the final at 81-79.

Witt finished with a game-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds in playing all 40 minutes.

Dandridge netted 20 points and Baird chipped in 12 points and seven assists.

Smith led the Lady Mountain Lions with 24 points, followed by Kenyah Stubbs with 22 and Ziolkowski’s 20.

Both teams are in action at 2 p.m. Saturday as the Lady Bobcats visit league leader Glenville State and Concord hosts Davis & Elkins.

ELKINS — League leader Glenville State placed four players in double figures in handing Davis & Elkins an 88-63 setback Wednesday night in MEC play at the McDonnell Center.

Ashlyn Riley had 16 points to lead the Lady Pioneers. Jayda Allie added 15, Carine Pinkney 14 and Khalia Bryant 13.

Briyana Sapp led the Lady Senators with a game-high 20 points.

Kaitlyn Parker and Kylie Morris chipped in 11 each.

D&E is now 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the MEC and will travel to Concord at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Glenville State (10-2, 4-1 MEC) entertains West Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m. the same day for a key league matchup
