ELKINS — Mountain Gymnastics Academy (MGA) recently hosted the annual Snowflake Classic, featuring a two-day internal meet scored by USA Gymnastics-certified judges.

The event combined traditional individual competition with a new team-based format designed to promote camaraderie across levels.

The first day of the event followed a standard meet format for MGA Club gymnasts. In the 5 to 7-age group, Makayla Smith earned first place on vault, floor and all-around, while Aria Harris won bars and placed second on vault, beam and all-around.

Lily Howard captured first on beam and second on bars, and Daisy Malcom placed second on floor.

In the 8-9 division, Ellie Skinner swept vault, bars, floor and all-around. Lucy Talbott won beam and placed second on vault and all-around, Cecilia Biola placed second on bars and floor and Balianna Moran earned second on beam.

Day two of the event introduced an intra-squad team competition, grouping Bronze through Diamond gymnasts into mixed-level teams.

“The goal was to promote team spirit and give the girls a chance to compete with gymnasts they normally wouldn’t,” said head coach Gail Hayes. “They loved the format and are already asking when we can do it again.”

The Snow Stars finished first, followed by the Fierce Snow Gymnasts, Snow Flurries and Snow Girls.

It was a very close contest with only three points out of a possible 200 separating first and fourth.

MGA also awarded meet-wide high scores across all levels. Lily Hayes (Diamond) posted the top vault score with a 9.375. Silver gymnasts Raina Smith and Ella Shifflett tied for bars with a 9.5, with Shifflett winning the tiebreaker. Harmony Hymes (Silver) earned the top beam score at 9.15, Ivy Smith (Bronze) led floor with a 9.25, and Everly Casto (Silver) and Ella Shifflett tied all-around at 36.75, with Shifflett taking the tiebreaker.
