Minutemaids rally past Lady Tigers, 47-46

ELKINS -- Elkins dropped a 47-46 verdict to Lewis County Thursday night at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium in Big 10 Conference play.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 21-8 lead after one quarter and took a 30-23 advantage into halftime.

Elkins maintained a 41-36 lead heading into the final quarter before the Minutemaids took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Kyra Vinson with less than 3 minutes to play in regulation.

The Lady Tigers missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired.

Maddy Zirkle had 18 points to lead Elkins, followed by Emma Gilbert with 12.

Payten Goodwin netted 22 points for Lewis County, which is now 8-2 and hosts East Fairmont on Tuesday for another league game.

The Lady Tigers dropped to 6-4 and are slated to host Moorefield at 3 p.m. today, weather permitting.
