MILL CREEK -- Tygarts Valley limited Pocahontas County to just 13 first-half points in taking a 65-48 win Friday night at Weber-Wamsley Court in a battle of regional foes.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early advantage, outscoring the Warriors, 18-7, in the first quarter of play and leading 33-13 at halftime.
Jacob Wamsley led the Bulldogs with 25 points.
Alex Scott added 12 and Adam Woods 11.
Carter Vandevender tossed in 13 points and Cash Beers added 10 for Pocahontas County.
"Defense set the tone for us by holding Pocahontas County to 13 points in the first half," said Tygarts Valley coach Tom Wamsley, whose team is now 9-12 on the season.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs dropped a 66-36 decision at regional foe Tucker County.
Scott had 14 points, Wamsley 12 and Parker Bell 10 for TV.
Carson Dearborn led the Mountain Lions with 22 points.
Sam Marks added 13 and Ethan Cummings 11.
The WVSSAC released the regional pairings on Thursday.
The Bulldogs are the fifth seed in the Class A, Region II tournament and will visit No. 4 Union on Thursday.
No. 8 Harman ventures to top-seed East Hardy, also on Thursday, while seventh-seed Pocahontas County is at No. 2 Pendleton County and third-seed Tucker County entertains Paw Paw.
The Harman-Easrt Hardy winner faces the Tygarts Valley-Union victor and the Pocahontas County-Pendleton County winner battles the Paw Paw-Tucker County at the site of the highest-remaining seed on Wednesday, March 11, with the winners of those games moving on to the state tourney.
