Tigers drop tilt to Irish

ELKINS — Class AA, No. 8 Charleston Catholic placed four players in double figures in handing Elkins a 48-41 setback Saturday night at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

It was the first game action for the Tigers (2-9) in nearly two weeks due to the weather. They will have a busy slate forthcoming, however, visiting Buckhannon-Upshur this evening, hosting Bridgeport Tuesday, playing Cabell Midland Thursday at West Virginia State College and traveling to Hampshire on Saturday.

Wilkes Aliff and Will Gruse led the Irish with 11 points each, followed by Zaden Ranson and Mikaden Hale with 10 apiece.

Senior Landon Shreve bucketed a game-high 18 points and Dreyton Boggs added 11 for Elkins, which trailed 20-10 after one quarter and 27-20 at the intermission.

The Tigers cut the deficit to 37-33 after three quarters but were outscored 11-8 in the final canto.

Charleston Catholic is now 11-5 on the season and is scheduled to entertain Logan at 6:30 p.m. today.
