MORGANTOWN — Just when you think West Virginia is done beefing up its roster, Rich Rodriguez adds another player.
Iowa Western Community College defensive back Timothy Roberson announced on his social media that he had committed to the Mountaineers. Roberson is expected to join the team in the summer and has two years of eligibility left.
Roberson’s had an eventful last couple of months. He was committed to play for South Florida before the Bulls changed coaches, hiring Ohio State’s Brian Hartline. Then, Roberson pledged to play for Liberty 15 days after his decommitment. He opened up his recruitment once more and picked WVU. Before JUCO, Roberson was enrolled at Troy.
At JUCO, Roberson played in 26 games over two seasons. In his final season, he had 33 tackles, two tackles for loss and a whopping six interceptions, which sparked interest from Division I programs. Roberson helped his squad to win the 2025 NJCAA DI Football National Championship and was named an NJCAA All-American Honorable mention.
After 2025, Roberson was listed as a 3-star JUCO prospect and the 55th-best player. WVU already has a couple of the top JUCO players, including two top 5 receivers.
Roberson adds more depth to a secondary that was hurt pretty badly with graduations after this fall. WVU lost ball hawks like Jordan Scruggs and Darrian Lewis, who had a couple of interceptions this season. Scruggs even took one in for a score in the upset over Houston.
The last player WVU added was its lone signee of the spring National Signing Day, West Virginia State Player of the Year, Brad Mossor. Rodriguez talked last summer about how he’s not afraid to add “free agents” well past ordinary times. WVU added a couple of players midseason and weeks before the game last year. There could be more to come.
