Furious fourth-quarter rally lifts Ritchie over Tucker girls

CHARLESTON -- A furious fourth-quarter rally sent No. 5 Ritchie County to a 38-34 victory over fourth-seed Tucker County Tuesday night in Class A quarterfinal action at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Lady Mountain Lions controlled things for the first three quarters, leading 14-7 after the first canto and taking a 20-13 cushion into the intermission.
Tucker County's advantage grew to 31-21 after three quarters.
The final canto, however, belong to the Lady Rebels as they started the quarter on an 8-0 run.
Ritchie County then tied the game at 31-31 on a basket by AbbiGayl Cox with 3:38 left in regulation.
MaKenna Evans answered with a pair of free throws to give the Lady Mountains the lead back.
A trey later by Elsa Law tied the game at 34-34 and the Lady Rebels would scored the game's final four points over the last :42, including a pair of free throws from Callie Smith with two ticks left to secure the win.
Addi Moats led Tucker County with 12 points. Izzy Kitzmiller added nine points on three treys. Peyton Cross snagged nine rebounds.
Law had 11 points and nine caroms and Emily Bush 10 points for Ritchie County, which is now 16-7 and faces top-seed Gilmer County (23-2) at 7:15 today in the semifinals.
The Lady Mountain Lions ended the season with a 17-6 record.
