Lady Colts set for fifth straight state appearance
CHARLESTON — The Philip Barbour girls will take to the floor of the Charleston Coliseum & Convention for the fifth straight season this evening.
The seventh-seeded Lady Colts (16-8) are set to battle No. 2 Williamstown (19-3) for a 7:15 p.m. Class AA quarterfinal matchup.
Philip Barbour is led by junior forward Izzy Knotts, who is hitting for 14.4 points per game.
Knotts scored her 1,000th career point earlier this season.
Junior center Tatiem Jeffries is next with nearly 10 points per contest, followed by junior guard Finley Carpenter (7.3), junior guard Olivia Wilmoth (6.0) and sophomore guard Ansley Bolyard (4.5).
Class AA quarterfinal action got underway on Tuesday evening, as fifth-seed Wyoming East defeated fourth-seed Charleston Catholic, 63-53, and top-seed James Monroe cruised to a 68-33 victory over eighth-seed Lincoln.
No. 3 Wheeling Central meets No. 6 Wayne at 11:15 a.m. in today’s other quarterfinal contest.
