Tucker, Pocahontas girls begin state play on Tuesday

CHARLESTON — Tucker County and Pocahontas County begin Class A state tournament action Tuesday inside the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The fourth-seeded Lady Mountains, making their 22nd straight state tourney appearance, face No. 5 Ritchie County at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Senior Addi Moats tops Tucker County (17-5) in scoring with 11.9 points per game, while classmate MaKenna Evans averages 10.5 points and leads the team in both rebounding (8.7 pg.) and assists (4.8 pg.)
Junior Cortney Shaffer is also counted on for scoring, along with sophomore Peyton Cross and junior Peyton Hicks.
Sophomore Izzy Kitzmiller and senior Mayah Gross are averaging 9.2 and 8.9 points, respectively.
Ritchie County (15-7) counters with junior guard Elsa Law, who nets 21.1 points per contest.
Junior guard Chelsie Jeffrey, sophomore guard Abbi Cox, junior guard Callie Smith and senior center Emily Bush also figure into the scoring output for the Lady Rebels.
Sixth-seed Pocahontas County (16-2) takes to the court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday against No. 3 St. Marys (20-4).
The Lady Warriors are led by senior Calli Propst, sophomore Savana Sharp, junior Allyson Taylor, senior Shayla Bennett and junior Alexis Arbogast.
Propst fired in 26 points and Sharp added 19 in Pocahontas County’s co-final regional win over Tygarts Valley.
St. Marys counters with high-scoring junior forward Brynnley Bulluck, who is averaging 25.7 points per outing.
Junior guard Anna Bennett (12.4 ppg.) and sophomore forward Laney Watkins (11.7 ppg.) are other double-digit scorers.
