Lady Tigers’ season ends in loss to Keyser in regional co-final

ELKINS -- Class A state tourney berths are on the line tonight for Tygarts Valley and Tucker County.
The third-seeded Lady Bulldogs (12-6) travel to No. 2 Pocahontas County (15-2) in one of the Region II co-finals, while the top-seeded Lady Mountain Lions (16-5) play host to No. 4 Pendleton County (10-11) in the other.
Both contests are rematches from the regular season.
Tygarts Valley dropped a 63-53 verdict at Pocahontas County back on Jan. 22.
The Lady Warriors used a late surge to garner the win as Allyson Taylor bucketed 17 points and Calli Propst added 15.
Senior Sarah Defibaugh led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points in the setback.
Tucker County, seeking its 22nd straight trip to the state tourney, dealt Pendleton County a 59-43 setback at home on Jan. 13.
The Lady Mountain Lions are paced in scoring by senior guard MaKenna Evans (12 ppg.) and senior forward Mayah Gross at 10 points per contest.
The Lady Wildcats counter with junior Susan Vincell, who is hitting for 7.0 points per contest, and senior Jameigh Miller (6.7 ppg.)
Regional action for the girls continues on Thursday when second-seed Philip Barbour (15-8) entertains No. 3 Petersburg (15-6) in Class AA, Region II co-final action.
The Lady Colts are led by junior Izzy Knotts, who scored her 1,000th career point last week in a regional victory over Berkeley Springs.
The Lady Vikings advanced with a 62-32 victory over Braxton County behind 19 points from junior Miley Tingler and senior Ayden Mayfield with 15.
Philip Barbour defeated host Petersburg, 51-47, in the lone regular-season meeting.
In Class AAA, Region II action, Elkins saw its season end in a 58-21 loss at Keyser on Tuesday night.
The Lady Golden Tornado will be the fifth seed in the state tournament and face No. 4 John Marshall at 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in the quarterfinals at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
Bibs Felton led Keyser in Tuesday's win with 24 points.
The Lady Tigers, who ended the season 10-11, couldn't overcome an early deficit, trailing 13-2 after one quarter and 23-6 at the intermission.
Sophomore Mencia Gomez had eight points and senior Emma Gilbert six for Elkins in the setback.
