Ward, Union pull away from Bulldogs, 52-42

MT. STORM — Braylon Ward scored 13 of his game-high 29 points as fourth-seed Union pulled away for a 52-42 win over fifth-seed Tygarts Valley Thursday night in Class A, Region II action.

The Tigers will now travel to top-seed East Hardy on Wednesday in co-regional final action.

Second-seed Tucker County, a 95-48 win over Paw Paw on Thursday, will host No. 2 Pendleton County in the other co-regional final, with the winners of both of those games advancing to the state tournament.

Ward overcome early foul trouble in helping Union outscore the Bulldogs, 22-12 in the final frame after the contest was tied at 30-30 after three quarters.

Corbin Streets added 18 points for the Tigers.

Senior Jacob Wamsley, a 1,000 point scorer, netted 17 in his final contest at Tygarts Valley.

Parker Bell chipped in 13.

Union led 9-7 after one quarter and 18-17 at halftime.

“The kids played their heart’s out,” Bulldogs coach Tom Wamsley said. “We missed a lot of shots we normally make.”

Tygarts Valley ended the season 9-13.
