Westfall
TENNERTON — Buckhannon-Upshur’s Jason Westfall has been selected as one of the coaches for the North-South Basketball All-Star game to be held June 19 at the South Charleston Community Center.
Westfall and Tug Valley’s Garland Thompson will guide the South boys.
Westfall has served as the B-U head coach since 2022, leading the Bucs to the regional title game in his first year on the job.
He was a standout player at B-U and played his college ball at West Virginia Wesleyan, where he was a 1,000-point career scorer and an All-WVIAC Freshman Team selection.
Thompson, meanwhile, has guided Tug Valley to the past three Class A state titles.
East Hardy’s Chris Hahn and Spring Mill’s Shannon Layton are the North coaches.
John Marshall’s Brock Melko and Lincoln’s Rob Hawkins will be the North girls coaches, while Parkersburg’s Chris Murray and Gilmer County’s Amy Chapman will guide the South girls.
The West Virginia Athletic Director’s Association announced the selection of the coaches on Tuesday afternoon.
Invitations for both the boys and girls basketball teams are currently being extended and rosters will be announced soon, according to the press release.
The North boys defeated the South, 119-86, in last year’s game, while the South girls claimed an 80-76 victory over the North.
