Bucs, Colts drop games in McDonald’s Classic action
BRIDGEPORT — Buckhannon-Upshur dropped a pair of games in the McDonald’s Classic on Friday.
The Bucs fell to Cabell Midland, 8-0, as Owen Maynard allowed just four hits over six innings, striking out 13 and walking one.
Brody McDaniels was tagged with the loss in 3 2/3 innings, giving up eight runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out three walking four.
Eli McGinnis had a two-run homer for the Knights.
McDaniels, Jerin Westfall, Jacob Frye and Clay Lantz had hits for the Bucs.
In Friday’s second game at played at South Harrison High School, B-U lost a 6-2 verdict to University.
Alex Wamsley had a solo homer and Westfall was 2 for 3 for the Bucs.
Colson Jenkins had a pair of RBIs and Max Cash an RBI double for the Hawks.
James Bryner earned the win on the mound, allowing just three hits, striking out 10 and not issuing a walk in a complete-game effort.
Weldon Zirkle was saddled with the loss, going four innings, surrendering four runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking one.
B-U (8-4) faces Independence at 2:30 p.m. today back at South Harrison.
Morgantown 11, Philip Barbour 1
LOST CREEK — Philip Barbour began McDonald’s Classic action with an 11-1 setback to Morgantown Friday at South Harrison High School.
Maddox Boggs allowed one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. He struck out four and walked two.
Mattox Satterfield took the loss, going three innings and giving up nine runs (four earned) on six hits, fanning two and walking five.
Mason Bowers had a pair of RBIs and Jessie McCardle a solo homer for the Mohigans.
Anthony Mosesso, Landyn Carpenter, Robbie Jones, Kale Wolfe and Braxton Carpenter recorded safeties for the Colts, who are now 6-9 and were slated to face South Harrison in Friday night’s late game and battle Williamstown at 4:45 p.m. today at Robert C. Byrd High School in additional McDonald’s Classic action.
