Chargers hold off Bulldogs

MILL CREEK — Tygarts Valley dropped a 4-3 decision to Bath County (Va.) on Wednesday.

Cooper Markley was saddled with the loss for the Bulldogs.

He went six innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out eight.

Corban Oldaker struck out the side in one inning of relief.

Dylan Hicklin earned the win, scattering one run on three hits over three innings of work. He fanned four.

Nate Hunt was credited with the save.

The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the second on RBI single by Cade Perdue and Mark Durney’s RBI groundout.

Markley’s double in the third scored Adam Woods to cut the lead in half.

Bath County tacked on a single run in the fifth on a run-producing double by Jake Boguess and added another run in the sixth on Gunnar Whiddon’s RBI single.

Tygarts Valley answered with two runs in the home-half of the frame when Zayden Defibaugh singled home Austin Gear and Oldaker scored on the throw.

The Bulldogs threatened in the seventh when Woods led off with a single and moved to second on Markley’s sacrifice bunt.

But Hunt recorded the final two outs with runners on base to end the threat and contest.

Tygarts Valley (5-4) is slated to visit Pendleton County on Friday.
