EHS track teams having banner campaigns

ELKINS — The expectations will be high for the Elkins boys and girls tracks teams once the postseason arrives.
The Lady Tigers are second in the latest Class AAA RunWV Power rankings behind Greenbrier East, while the boys are fourth.
Members of the EHS girls squad are scattered among the best performances on runwv.com.
Sophomore Marissa Brenwalt has the top recorded performances in Class AAA in both the 100-meter high hurdles (15.00) and high jump (5-4), along with being second in the 300 low hurdles (47.58) and long jump (16-09.25).
In the running events, junior Emilia Tenney is second in the 800 (2:16.09) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:07.36), while classmate Julia Biola second in the 3,200 (10:52.37) third in the 1,600 (5:06.18) and fifth in the 800 (2:20.41).
Freshman Molly McFadden also is listed among the top 10 performances in the 3,200 (12:33.86).
The 4×800 relay has the top effort with a time of 9:56.28, nearly 20 second ahead of John Marshall’s unit.
The EHS boys are equally impressive with best performances, as junior Trevor George is first in the 3,200 (9:20.30), second in the 3,200 (4:22.76) and third in the 800 (1:59.01).
Seniors Josh Bodkins and Bobby Valentine are among the top 10 in the 800 with times of 2:00.01 and 2:00.16, respectively, while Bodkins is sixth in the 1,600 (4:28.44), Valentine 10th in the 1,600 (4:35.59), senior Ben Tenney ninth in the 3,200 (10:13.01) and junior Treven Schaefer 10th in the 3,200 (10:13.81).
The Tigers have top performances in all the running relay events, with the 4×800 unit have the fastest time at 8:18.47.
Sophomore Donovan Howes, who broke a 57-year school record at the Doddridge County meet in the discus, is among the top 10 in that event with a toss of 137-06.
Elkins will host both the Big 10 Conference Championships on May 5.
The Class AAA, Region II meet is set for May 14 at Keyser High School and the state meet takes place at Charleston’s Laidley Field on May 22-23.
