Hawks hold off late rally by Colts
PHILIPPI — South Harrison plated single runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to get past regional foe Philip Barbour, 9-7, on Tuesday evening.
The Colts trailed 7-0 before drawing even with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Anthony Mosesso had a two-run homer and Landyn Carpenter a two-run triple in the frame, while Keagan Wolfe a two-run single and Kale Wolfe a run-producing single.
The Hawks answered with an RBI single from Jaxon Anderson in the fifth and a run-producing double by Noah Myers in the sixth.
Philip Barbour loaded the bases in the seventh but South Harrison turned in a double play to end the contest.
Zane Harlow worked the final two innings to earn the win, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two.
Robbie Jones, one of four pitchers used by the Colts, took the loss in three innings of relief.
Anderson, Jaycen Beachler and Brogan Medina had two RBIs apiece for the Hawks.
Philip Barbour (7-10) remains home at 5:30 p.m. today to face Tucker County.
Bridgeport 16, Elkins 9
BRIDGEPORT — Elkins dropped a 16-9 verdict to Bridgeport Monday in Big 10 Conference play.
Trent Stone had two hits and pair of RBIs for the Tigers in the loss, while Isaac Shepler and Owen Stanley had two hits apiece.
Kasen Baun and Guy Avolio had three RBIs each for the Indians and Luke Rohrig went 4 for 4 with a homer and pair of RBIs and Jax McNally four hits,
Elkins (6-10) visits Lewis County at 6 p.m. today.
