Lady Tigers drop twin-bill to RCB

Squires hits three homers for Lady Bucs in win

CLARKSBURG — Elkins dropped a Big 10 Conference doubleheader to Robert C. Byrd on Friday night.

The Lady Tigers fell 6-2 in the lidlifter as Chloe Barlow struck out 16 batters and and allowed five hits and 10-3 in the nightcap.

Meria Tarley went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Addison Carr a pair of hits in the opening-game loss.

Amirah Moore had a solo homer for the Lady Flying Eagles.

Maddie Lambert was tagged with the loss in going the distance.

In the second game, RCB broke open a 3-3 tie with a single run in the fourth and a six-run outburst in the fifth inning to take a 10-3 victory.

Lexi Hardy had a three-run homer in the fifth for the Lady Flying Eagles as the game ended with two outs in the fifth due to the mercy rule.

Hailey Riffle’s two-run double in the fourth had drew the Lady Tigers even at 3-3.

Carr was tagged with the loss, going four-plus innings and fanning three. None of the runs were earned as Elkins was plagued by six errors.

Carr also doubled at the plate.

Torrin Strawderman earned the win in a complete-game showing, allowing seven hits and striking out three.

The Lady Tigers (7-13) return home to face Tygarts Valley at 6 p.m. Monday.

B-U 7, Wheeling Park 4

WHEELING — Buckhannon-Upshur cracked five homers, including three from Braylea Squires, to garner a 7-4 win over Wheeling Park on Friday.

Squires had solo homers each of the first and fourth innings and a three-run shot in the second.

Charity Talbott and Kynnedy Marple also homered for the Lady Bucs.

Marple earned the win on the mound, giving up eight hits, striking out eight and walking just one.

Zoey Burr added a pair of hits for B-U, which is now 19-6 and entertains Preston at 6 p.m. Monday for a Big 10 Conference tilt.

Prep baseball

B-U 12, Wheeling Park 3

WHEELING — Buckhannon-Upshur used a 16-hit attack in cruising past Wheeling Park, 12-3, on Friday evening.

Jaxon Spratt drove in four runs on four hits to lead the Bucs at the plate.

He had run-producing singles in each of the first and sixth innings and a two-run single in the seventh.

B-U took a 3-0 lead in the first on the strength of a two-run double by Alex Wamsley and Spratt’s run-producing safety.

Wamsley was 3 for 5 on the night with three RBIs.

Jacob Frye’s RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth and Jerin Westfall’s sac fly in the fourth extended the lead to 5-1.

The Bucs then broke open the contest with seven runs over the final three frames.

Brody McDaniels scattered five hits in a complete-game effort to garner the win. He struck four and walked one.

McDaniels also was 4 for 4 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI.

Erik Blazier was tagged with the loss, going the first four innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, striking out two and not issuing a free pass.

Westfall tallied two RBIs in the victory.

Brody Groome had a solo homer for the Patriots.

B-U (10-6) is slated to host Big 10 Conference rival Elkins at 5 p.m. Monday.
