Local golfer shines in Virginia tournaments
NOKESVILLE, Va — Rising junior golfer Valentina Aguilar delivered an impressive performance last weekend at Prince William Golf Course, competing against a field of 12 players in the 11-12 age division of the Northern Virginia USkidsgolf league.
Showcasing consistency and composure, Aguilar secured first place with a final score of 77, edging out the competition by a single stroke.
Aguilar’s round was highlighted by exceptional driving accuracy, which consistently set up strong approach shots. Her precision paid off with three birdies and multiple additional par opportunities throughout the round. Despite facing adversity in a deep sand trap — estimated at more than sis-feet high –that resulted in a few shots over par, Aguilar demonstrated resilience. She rebounded with determination and mental focus, going on to par the next three holes and maintain her lead.
Finishing in the final group around 8 p.m., Aguilar closed out a long but rewarding day before heading to her hotel to rest and prepare for the next stage of competition.
The following day, Aguilar competed at The Gauntlet Golf Course in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where scenic views and challenging water hazards once again tested the field. Navigating the wooded layout of the course, Aguilar relied on her consistent driving accuracy to produce a steady round that included nine pars and one birdie.
However, difficult hole placements proved decisive, and a bogey on the 18th hole brought her final score to 78. Aguilar secured second place, finishing just one stroke behind the tournament leader.
The weekend showcased Aguilar’s ability to perform under pressure while competing in out-of-state tournaments across Virginia and Maryland. Her continued success in maintaining scores in the 70s reflects both her skill and dedication to the game.
Looking ahead, Aguilar is preparing for upcoming West Virginia amateur tournaments and the Callaway Junior Tour this summer. She will also participate in the John Ballantyne Memorial Junior Golf Program, beginning Monday from 5 p.m.to 6:30 p.m. at JB’s Golf Range in Crystal Springs.
With momentum on her side and a strong competitive mindset, Aguilar continues to build an exciting path in junior golf.
