ELKINS — Braden Cooper twirled a five-inning, three-hitter as Elkins blanked Pendleton County 10-0 Friday at EHS Field.

Cooper didn’t allow an extra-base hit, while fanning three and walking two.

The Tigers got on the board in the first inning when Cooper led off with a walk and later scored on Trent Stone’s double to center.

Stone was 2 for 2 on the night.

The EHS defense kept the Wildcats off the board in the second as a runner was gunned down the plate after Cooper Smith’s single and another on a pick-off at third base when catcher Owen Stanley fired a strike to Stone to record the final out of the frame.

They tacked on two more in the second when Dyer Barger led off with a double to deep center and raced home on Isaac Shepler’s single to left.

Shepler then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

A two-run single by Will Kilgore, Owen Stanley’s sacrifice fly and an error led to four runs in the third.

Elkins tacked on three more runs in the fourth to build a 10-0 lead en route to ending the game early after the top of the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Stanley’s singled in Blayne Thompson and Stone and an error accounted for the three runs in the fifth.

Mason Miller was saddled with the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking four in going the first three frames.

Cashton Kisamore, Smith and Mason Harper accounted for the hits for Pendleton County, which is now 7-9 and entertains Highland County (Va.) at 11 a.m. today.

The Tigers (8-10) visit Buckhannon-Upshur at 5 p.m. Monday for a Big 10 Conference battle.

Starting at $3.92/week.
