ELKINS — The Randolph County Athletic Hall of Fame is in need of financial support to keep the tradition alive of honoring former greats.
The HOF is presently seeking sponsors for the organization. The HOF is a 501c3 organization and sponsorship would be tax deductible.
Sponsorship will be noted on all of the HOF’s public correspondence and on banquet booklet.
“We have found ourselves very low on funds,” RCHOF president Dave Crawford said. “We have sent letters out asking for sponsorship or a simple donation and have gotten back only three (responses) for a total of $300.
“Paying for the banquet, plaques and induction program cost us more than that, and I’m afraid if we don’t get some help the ‘Hall’ will no longer be able to continue.”
The Randolph County Hall of Fame started in 1991 when a group of area coaches and business individuals decided to honor the best of Randolph County’s high school athletes, teams and coaches.
The first class inducted consisted of 31 individuals.
At present time, the HOF has a total of 222 individuals, 45 teams and six high school mascots from all of Randolph County high schools.
Individual athlete, coach, team and mascot plaques are presently on display at the Steer Steakhouse on the Beverly Five-Lane in Elkins.
Former athletes. coaches and teams are evaluated for induction each year following prescribed performance criteria.
Selections are made by the Randolph County Hall of Fame committee, which consists of area coaches, officials and former athletes. Inductions are usually held in August.
