Records fall for EHS at Cline Stansberry invite

Howes breaks 57-year-old school mark in discus

WEST UNION–Elkins High School’s track stars continued their assault on meet and school records Friday night at Doddridge’s 44th annual Cline Stansberry Invitational.

For the Tigers, Donovan Howes’ discus toss of 153-3 broke a 57-year old school record.

Larry Spears established the previous mark of 147-7 in 1969. Howes took second in that event behind Williamstown’s Christian Hoosier (166-3).

The EHS boys 4×800 relay squad of Josh Bodkins, Logan Jones, Dylan Fortney and Trevor George also bettered a school record of 8:10.75 from last year. Their winning time of 8:07.92 was also a meet record.

For the the Lady Tigers, Marissa Brenwalt lowered her own meet and school records in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.72 clocking. Brenwalt also took fourth in the high jump (4-10).

Elkins’ Julia Biola also set a new meet record in the 800 (2:17.67) and picked up another first-place finish in the 1,600 (5:07.13).

Other first-place finishers for the Tigers included Bobby Valentine in the 1,600 (4:31.00) and both of the boys power sprint relays.

Elkins’ winning 4×100 (44.62) team consisted of Elias Jones, Jaden Hatfield, Tony Silvester and Randal Marks.

Jones, Hatfield and Marks also teamed up with Lucian Breault to win the 4×200 (1:31.66).

The EHS boys finished second overall out of 17 teams with 101 points to trail Doddridge County’s tally of 133.

The EHS girls took third with 69 points behind Williamstown’s 111 and Parkersburg’s 107.

Elkins returns to action on Tuesday with a tri-meet at Preston High School.

Field events are set to begin at 4 p.m.
