Sixth-inning surge carries Tigers past Bulldogs

MILL CREEK — Elkins dented the scoreboard for five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 7-1 victory over Tygarts Valley on Saturday.

Braden Cooper had a two-run double during the uprising, while Trent Stone an RBI double, Dyer Barger drew a bases-loaded walk and Blayne Thompson lofted an RBI sacrifice fly.

Owen Stanley went the first two innings to earn the win, allowing one unearned run on one hit. He fanned four and walked three.

Brady Biller pitched five scoreless innings of relief, surrendering three hits, striking out five and walking one.

Adams Woods was saddled with the loss in four innings of action. He gave up two runs on one hit, striking out seven and walking five.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first on an error.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the third inning on Stanley’s two-run single.

Elkins (6-9) returns to Big 10 Conference action at 5 p.m. today at Bridgeport.

Tygarts Valley (11-6) visits Tucker County at 6 p.m. today.

Philip Barbour 4, South Harrison 3

LOST CREEK — Kale Wolfe fanned 12 in a complete-game outing to lead Philip Barbour to a 4-3 win over South Harrison Friday night in McDonald’s Classic action.

Wolfe allowed four hits and issued just one free pass.

Robbie Jones’ RBI double in the top of the seventh proved to be the game-winner for the Colts, breaking a 3-3 tie.

An RBI groundout by Anthony Mosesso and Kent Rowan’s run-producing single gave Philip Barbour a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Landyn Carpenter added an RBI sac fly in the fifth.

Jacob Watts had a solo homer for the Hawks.

The Colts (7-9) host North Marion at 5:30 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference matchup.
