Spratt pitches Bucs over Tigers

ELKINS — Jaxon Spratt allowed just two hits over six innings as Buckhannon-Upshur claimed a 7-2 win over Big 10 Conference rival Elkins, 7-2, Thursday night at EHS Field.
Spratt gave up one unearned run and struck out 12.
Dyer Barger was tagged with the loss, going three frames, surrendering four runs on three hits and fanning eight.
Jacob Frye had an RBI double and Alex Fisher a run-producing groundout as the Bucs plated three runs in the top of the first inning.
They tacked on two runs in the fourth and single runs in each of the fifth and six innings.
Alex Wamsley, Spratt and Brody McDaniels added RBIs for B-U.
The Tigers scored in the fifth and seventh innings.
Owen Stanley drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.
Braden Cooper went 2 for 4 at the plate to lead Elkins, which is now 5-9 and visits Tygarts Valley at noon on Saturday.
The Bucs are now 8-2 and slated to face Cabell Midland (Bridgeport High School) at 1:45 p.m. and University (South Harrison High School) at 5 p.m. today as part of the McDonald’s Classic being held in Harrison County.
Petersburg 14, Tucker County 0
PARSONS — Carter Hardy had a pair of hits and three RBIs as Petersburg defeated Tucker County, 14-0, on Thursday night.
Owen Helmick had two hits for the Mountain Lions.
Micah Ertell and two relievers combined on a two-hitter for the Vikings. Ertell went the first two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Matt McDonald and Melvin Wimer also saw time on the mound.
Josh Crossland was charged with the loss.
Tucker County visits Clay-Battelle this evening.
