Tigers best Knights on Senior Night

ELKINS — Elkins celebrated Senior Night with a 7-3 win over Preston Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action at EHS Field.

Brady Biller allowed three runs on just two hits in going 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four.

Dyer Barger finished in relief, allowing two hits, fanning three and not issuing a free pass.

Cooper Thaler was tagged with the loss in one inning of action, surrendering four runs on three hits, striking out two and walking three.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning when Owen Stanley cracked a bases-clearing double and Dyer Barger added an RBI double to make it 4-0.

After the Knights dented the scoreboard on Bryson McNew’s run-producing single in the third,Elkins answered with two runs in the home-half of the frame when senior James Linger delivered a line-drive double to right to plate Barger, who had reached on a fielder’s choice.

Senior Jayden Harding followed with a groundout to plate Isaac Shepler to extend the lead to 6-1.

Ayden Ward’s RBI groundout in the fourth cut the deficit to four runs.

Each team collected a run in the sixth as Lyric Moats had a two-run double for Preston and Barger an RBI single for the Tigers.

Kash Jenkins had a pair of hits on the night for Preston.

Stanley, Braden Cooper, Linger and Barger finished with two hits apiece for Elkins, which is now 9-11 and entertains Class AAA, Region II foe Keyser on Thursday.
