KEYSER — The Elkins High girls placed second and the boys third in the Class AAA, Region II meet held Thursday at Keyser High School.
Elkins qualified 12 girls and 16 boys for the state meet.
Julia Biola was the high-point scorer in helping the Lady Tigers garner 135 points.
Biola won the 1,600-meter run (5:17.88) and the 3,200 (11:39.51) and was runner-up in the 800 (2:25.90) and teamed with Lilly Irons, Haley Kelley and Mencia Gomez in securing an at-large berth in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:19.99.
Teammate Emilia Tenney claimed the 800 in a time of 2:24.04.

Tenney joined Alyssa White, Kelley and Molly McFadden in winning the regional title in the 4×800 relay in a time of 10:21.73.
An injury limited Marisa Brenwalt, last year’s state champion in the 100-meter hurdles, from competing in the finals of that event on Thursday. She had the fastest preliminary time of 14.64.
Brenwalt earned a state berth, however, by winning the high jump with a leap of 4-10.
“Our biggest challenge was getting Marissa through this meet without hurting her back any further,” EHS girls coach Scott Biola said. “Ultimately, we realized she would need to sit out three events that she could have won because she was in a great deal of pain. At the same time, we need to keep our emphasis on celebrating her qualification in the high jump.”
Other state qualifiers for the Lady Tigers included the 4×200 relay (Savannah Rowan, Irons, Jenna Corley and Gomez), McFadden (1,600, 3,200), Gomez (100), Kenadi Carter (high jump) and Adeline Naser (pole vault).
Bridgeport took team honors with 211 points, followed by Elkins, Hampshire (133), Keyser (86), Robert C. Byrd (71) and Lewis County (38).
Earning state berths for the Tigers were Trevor George, who was second in both the 1,600 (4:26.37) and 3,200 (10:01.82) and earned an at-large berth in the 800, Jaden Hatfield (100, 200), Bobby Valentine (800, 1,600), Randal Marks (100), Dylan Fortney (800), Josh Bodkins (1,600), Ben Tenney (3,200), Preston Nixon (pole vault) and Donovan Howes, who placed second in the discus — breaking his own school mark of 158-06.
Elkins also qualified the 4×100 relay (Elias Jones, Lucian Breault, Tony Silvester and Marks), the 4×200 relay (Jones, Hatfield, Breault and Marks), the 4×400 relay (George, Breault, Tenney and Fortney), the 4×800 relay (Logan Jones, Treven Schaefer, Tenney and Fortney) and the shuttle hurdle relay (Elias Jones, Marks, Matthew McDonald and Logan Rowan).
“Qualifying for the state track meet is a hard thing to do,” EHS boys coach Adam Romano said. “I’m proud of how well all the milers competed on short rest to qualify in their events.”
Bridgeport also won the boys regional crown with 181.50 points to edge Keyser’s 179 markers.
Elkins (129.50), Hampshire (110), RCB (49) and Lewis County (35) rounded out the field.
The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday’s at Charleston’s Laidley Field.
“We are ecstatic to be taking 28 kids from Elkins to the state meet,” coach Biola added.
