Lady Bulldogs fall to Senior in regular-season finale
FAIRMONT — Tygarts Valley concluded regular-season play with a 15-7 setback to Big 10 Conference member Fairmont Senior on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs (7-13) will be the second seed in the Class A, Region II tournament and are scheduled to host No. 3 East Hardy today.
Fifth seed Pocahontas County travels to No. 4 Tucker County today as well in Class A, Region II action. Defending state champion Pendleton County is the top seed in the double-elimination tourney and will host the winner between Pocahontas County and Tucker County in its first game.
Addie Riddle and Audrey Chandler had two RBIs each for the Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 6-0 after the first inning but cut the deficit to 7-5 with two runs in each of the second and third innings and one in the fourth.
The Lady Polar Bears opened up a 13-5 lead with six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Riddle, who had an RBI triple on the day, Emily Smith and Lilly Lanham had two hits each for Tygarts Valley.
Natalia Ross, Kiana Edison and Addi Stewart had three RBIs apiece for Fairmont Senior.
Kyle Dodd earned the win in two innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits and fanning two.
Lanham was tagged with the loss.

Spring Valley 14, B-U 2
HUNTINGTON — Buckhannon-Upshur dropped a 14-2 verdict to Spring Valley on Saturday.
Jaxon Spratt went 3 for 3 with a two-run double for the Bucs that tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third.
The Timberwolves, however, erupted for 10 runs in the home-half of the inning to take control.
Parker Phillips, Caiden Lovejoy, Jack Shumaker and Bennett Rich had two RBIs each for Spring Valley.
Brody McDaniels was saddled with the loss, allowing 12 runs (five earned) on 10 hits in three innings of action. He struck out one and walked one.
Gage Roberts went all five innings to garner the victory, giving up six hits, striking out four and walking two.
B-U (13-10) returns home at 5 p.m. Tuesday to host Big 10 Conference foe Robert C. Byrd.
