Lady Tigers fall to Keyser, defeat Bridgeport in regional action
KEYSER — Elkins finds itself in an elimination game after falling to top-seed Keyser, 15-0, Tuesday night in Class AAA, Region II play.
The fourth-seeded Lady Tigers (12-15) will now host No. 5 Bridgeport today, weather permitting, in a rematch of Monday’s contest.
Elkins collected a 9-5 victory over the Lady Indians at Betty Heckel Field in that game.
Leighton Johnson struck out 12 and allowed five hits in going all five innings for the Lady Golden Tornado in Tuesday’s win.
Keyser erupted for 11 runs in the first inning as Mady McIntyre belted a grand slam and Bibs Felton added a two-run shot.
Meria Tarley, Braelynn Washington, Mady Shreve, Audrey Millett and Gabby Mahanes each had a hit for Elkins.
Addison Carr was saddled with the loss, while Maddie Lambert finished in relief.
Lambert was the winning pitcher against Bridgeport on Monday night, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits. She struck out seven.
Carr led the offense with three RBIs, going 2 for 3.
Hailey Riffle added a pair of hits, including a double.
Washington also laced a double.
East Hardy 5, Tygarts Valley 4
BAKER — Third-seed Tygarts Valley opened Class A, Region II action with a 5-4 setback to No. 2 East Hardy on Monday night.
The teams meet again today in Baker.
The Lady Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in Monday’s contest on RBI singles by Lilly Lanham and Desiree Watson, who had four hits on the night.
The Lady Cougars answered on Madison Strosnider’s run-producing single and Gracie Heishman’s RBI fielder’s choice in in the third to garner a 3-2 lead.
Kailen Yokum’s single in the fifth scored Watson to draw Tygarts Valley even.
East Hardy plated two runs in the home-half of the inning to take the lead for good.
The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the seventh when Watson led off with a double and scored on Audrey Chandler’s groundout.
Lanham took the loss in going the distance, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits and striking out three.
Strosnider struck out 16 and surrendered 11 hits in earning the win in a complete-game effort.
In other Class A, Region II action on Monday, fourth-seed Tucker County blanked Pocahontas County, 11-0, as Peyton Hicks tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 11.
The Lady Mountain Lions dropped a 15-0 verdict at top-seed Pendleton County on Tuesday night.
